Memorial of the former site of Prefectural Kitano Junior High School
The Prefectural Kitano Junior High School (currently the Osaka Prefectural Kitano High School) was located at this site from 1902 to 1931. The Kitano Junior High School was a junior high school under the old educational system. It had its roots in the “European-style school” established within the Namba Mido temple in Higashi Ward in 1873. The “Kitano” school name came from the fact that the area had previously been called “Kitano Shibata-cho.” The scene of the Kitano Junior High School was introduced as being that, “there can only be a large benefit from viewing the suburban fields on all four sides of the new school, both for health and for the mind.” It can be seen that it was in an environment surrounded by nature, where students could put their best into both their studies and their club activities. In 1935, the Saiseikai Nakatsu Hospital relocated to this site. It offers safe and reliable medical care to the local residents.

There was an era when the Kitano Junior High School was a private school!?
In 1880, the Kitano Junior High School was being operated as a prefectural junior high school with the name “Osaka Junior High School.” However, the Osaka Prefectural Assembly decided to eliminate all junior high school expenses in this year. This meant that the school temporarily became the “Osaka Private Junior High School” and was maintained by volunteers. In the following year, 1881, it returned to be the Osaka Prefectural Osaka Junior High School.
